Organized Play
DBZ: Prime Time supports two official draft formats. Both formats are equally valid for casual and competitive play — choose the format that fits your event's tone and available time.
Open Draft is recommended for casual and league events. Championship Draft is recommended for tournaments and top-cut rounds. Either format may be used for either context.
Roster Pool
Before each event, each player registers a Roster Pool — the models and cards they may draw from each game. The Roster Pool is fixed for the entire event.
Roster Pool Contents
Deck Construction Each Game
After your list is set and affiliation declared, privately build your 20-card deck:
- Choose 6 of your 10 character cards (for characters in your drafted list only)
- Choose exactly 4 affiliation cards from your declared affiliation's subset of your 8
- All 10 generic cards are always included
If your declared affiliation's subset contains fewer than 4 cards, fill remaining slots with Generic Filler Affiliation cards to reach exactly 4. Decks are built privately and not revealed until end of game.
Affiliation declaration: Declare one affiliation after all drafting and list building is complete, before deck construction. Your declared affiliation must be one your drafted list qualifies for.
Hedging Your Affiliation Pool
You may spread your 8 affiliation cards across multiple qualifying pools. Each affiliation pool has exactly 4 cards, so:
- 8/0 — all-in on one affiliation. Full 4-card access guaranteed. Zero pivot if draft is disrupted.
- 5/3 — primary with backup. Primary gives full 4; backup only gives 3 (1 filler card needed).
- 4/4 — maximum flexibility. Either affiliation gives full 4-card access.
- 6/2 or worse split — backup affiliation needs 2+ filler cards. Poor hedge.
The Two Formats
- Scenario revealed first
- Both players build lists simultaneously and privately
- Declare affiliation after list building
- No veto, no interaction
- Lists revealed at the same time
- Fast — rewards roster construction and scenario reading
- Scenario revealed first
- Alternating Threat-based model picks
- 1 veto per player — targets future picks
- Fusion cards drafted publicly
- Declare affiliation after draft
- Deck built privately after declaration
Open Draft — Full Rules
- Draw and reveal the scenario (Location + Mission + Condition).
- Both players simultaneously and privately select a legal 20-Threat list from their Roster Pool. Fusion Unlock cards may be included.
- Both players declare their affiliation (must qualify with selected list).
- Both players privately build their 20-card deck (6 character, 4 affiliation from declared pool, 10 generic).
- Both players reveal lists at the same time. Game begins with deployment.
Championship Draft — Full Rules
Setup
Both players exchange their full Roster Pool lists before the draft. All models and Fusion Unlock cards are public information throughout the draft.
Draft Sequence
Fusion Unlock Cards in the Draft
- Fusion Unlock cards are drafted publicly alongside models and count toward Threat.
- A Fusion Unlock card may only be drafted after both component models are already in your drafted list.
- Fusion Unlock cards are subject to veto like any other pick.
Veto Rules
- Each player has 1 veto total for the entire draft.
- A veto removes 1 model from the opponent's remaining pool — it cannot be drafted this game.
- Vetoes target future picks only — you cannot veto a model already drafted.
- Veto-immune: Each player's first-picked model cannot be vetoed at any point.
- A veto may be used on any of your pick turns. If unused, it carries forward to every subsequent turn.
- Vetoed models are removed for this game only — they return to the Roster Pool for future games.
After the Draft
Both players declare their affiliation (must qualify with drafted list), then privately build their 20-card deck: 6 character cards, exactly 4 affiliation cards from declared affiliation's subset of 8 (use Generic Filler Affiliation cards if fewer than 4 available), plus all 10 generic cards. Decks are not revealed until end of game. Game begins with deployment.
